TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The central board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) said on Sunday that fatigue was the main reason Indonesian athletes performed poorly in 2021. Denmark Open, especially after they had just played in the Sudirman Cup and the Thomas-Uber Cup.
Danish Open team manager Aryono Miranat said many players lack the energy to perform at their peak in this BWF Super 1000 tournament, Antaranews reported.
âThey have already played in the Sudirman Cup in Finland and the Thomas-Uber Cup in Denmark. Their strength and endurance weren’t enough to compete at the Danish Open and compete with the best players in the world, âAryo said in an official statement from PBSI on October 24.
Two Indonesian badminton athletes playing in the men’s singles category; Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie, had also suffered injuries sustained during the Thomas Cup and unfortunately did not make it through the first stages of the last tournament.
“They gave their all at the Thomas Cup because their motivation to win was unstoppable and they fought their pain,” he added.
Aryo also highlighted the performance by supporting the players who eventually showed positive signs in the Denmark Open but were faced with a lack of experience and consistency in the later stages of the tournament. However, he said the tournament was an irreplaceable experience for them as they faced the best badminton athletes in the world.
